AMC Chairman and CEO Adam Aron says AMC wants the best experience possible for moviegoers

Starting July 9, the AMC theater in Cookeville will begin selling tickets at half price.

As is often the case, there are a couple of catches. This initiative is part of a national rollout of an AMC program in which AMC Stubs members (the membership program that allows moviegoers to earn points with each visit) will receive a 50% discount on adult tickets on Wednesday evenings. Is it a reaction to softening ticket sales or something else?

Probably both. The summer movie season is usually strong, but most of those sales occur on the weekends. It’s like Vegas; Thursday evening to Sunday rings the register bell, and Monday to Wednesday the staff recovers. Perhaps this will ignite interest in the mid-week rush.

Good news.

AMC Stubs is free to join.

“50% Off Wednesdays” is designed to make moviegoing more affordable than ever,” according to a release by AMC, the largest theatrical exhibitor in the United States and the world. This new program is in addition to AMC continuing to offer significant discounts for AMC Stubs members on Tuesdays.

AMC Chairman and CEO Adam Aron says AMC wants the best experience possible for moviegoers:

“At AMC, we’ve gone to great lengths to create the preeminent moviegoing environment at our AMC theatres, including our offering more comfortable seating, more premium formats, and better food and beverage offerings. Now, we are also pleased to make moviegoing more affordable, with our new ‘50% Off Wednesdays’ effort. Realistically, we could not afford to have made this change to our ticket pricing strategy until the box office showed true signs of sustained recovery. But in April and now in May, the box office has been booming, and the remainder of 2025 appears poised to continue that upward box office trend.”

The program will be available to all 36 million AMC Stubs members, including any new members, and allows guests to “experience the latest blockbuster hits and other beloved stories on the big screen at a significantly reduced cost.”

“The introduction of Discount Tuesdays several years ago has turned Tuesday into one of the best attended days of the week, in part because there is a segment of the moviegoing audience who looks first for a great value in their moviegoing,” Aron continued. “With the introduction by AMC of 50% off Wednesdays, we’re looking to turn Wednesday into a similarly strong-attendance day for moviegoers at our theatres.”
