LIVINGSTON – Vol E Ball, an annual gala to support student scholarships for Overton County residents to attend Volunteer State Community College, raised nearly $26,000 at the event held May 8 at the Clark House in Livingston.
Warren Nichols, vice chancellor of community colleges for Tennessee Board of Regents and former Vol State president, was honored at the event for his role in the growth and development of Vol State’s Livingston campus in a tribute given by Millard Oakley. Vol State student and Vol E Ball scholarship recipient Jacob Connor spoke of how the Vol E Ball scholarship helped him reach his educational goals and thanked the patrons for their support.
Millard and JJ Oakley were Vol E Ball 2015 grand sponsors.
“The Vol E Ball is an outstanding event,” Vol State President Jerry Faulkner said. “The support for scholarships that has been raised is impressive and a clear demonstration of the investment of the community.”
The first Vol E Ball was conceived in 2011 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Volunteer State Community College at Livingston. Since its inception, Vol E Ball has raised a total of nearly $122,000 for student scholarships. Vol State has more than 90 programs of study and offers two-year degrees, certificates, and paths to university transfer.
