Van Buren cracking the top five in highest unemployment in state

Upper Cumberland – June 2023 data showed unemployment rates increased in each of The Upper Cumberland’s 14 counties.

The reason, summer, according to the state of Tennessee’s monthly report.

All Upper Cumberland counties saw an increase in unemployment rate in June with Van Buren cracking the top five in highest unemployment with 5.9%. That is up almost two percentage points from 4.1% a month ago.

Cannon County sits at 3.5% up from 3% while Clay is at 4.9%. Cumberland County and DeKalb County landed at 4.7% and 4.6%, respectively while Fentress lifted to 4.5% from 3.7% a month ago.

Jackson County also increased from 3.8% to 5%. Macon County’s number ticked up slightly from 3.2% to 3.7% and Overton went from 3.4% to 4.2%. Putnam sits at a 4.1% rate for the month. Smith is up half a percentage point to 3.5% while Warren landed at 4.9%.

White and Pickett counties lifted to 4.2% and 4.8%.
