UC Traffic Advisories July 29 – Aug. 4

UPPER CUMBERLAND – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) and several local governments have significant highway construction going on throughout the Upper Cumberland region that will drastically impact travelers. The following are the traffic advisories for construction throughout the Upper Cumberland for July 29 – Aug. 4 listed by county and an estimated completion date.

Interstate Construction:

I-40 Cookeville to Nashville

PUTNAM COUNTY I-40 TDOT Maintenance eastbound from MM 272 to MM 280: TDOT Maintenance will use a mobile operation to patch potholes on I-40 from MM 272 to MM 280 eastbound from 6 PM on 07/22/21 until 6 AM on 07/23/21.

PUTNAM COUNTY I-40 resurfacing from east of SR-56 (MM 281) to west of SR-136 (MM 287): The contractor will be performing nightly lane closures Sunday through Thursday from 7:00 PM – 6:00 AM. Work will consist of paving operations. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone.

SMITH COUNTY: I-40 from MM 250.00 – 267.40. Bridge inspection. Mon 7/26 thru Fri 7/30 8AM-4PM. TDOT Bridge crew will be doing bridge inspection.

WILSON COUNTY:   The grading, drainage, construction of I-beam bridge, retaining walls, and paving on I-40 from east of SR-109 to east of I-840. Thurs 7/29 thru Wed 8/4 8PM-5AM. There will be nightly ramp closures for tie in reconstruction at the I-840 and South Hartman Dr interchanges. The traffic will be shifted to the temporary ramp in in order to rebuild the existing ramp. The overall travel width will reduce from  28′ to 12′. 

WILSON COUNTY: I-40 at MM 239 Emergency asphalt repairs will be taking place Mon 8/2 from 7:30PM to 2AM I-40 WB on ramp from US 70, exit 239, will be closed for emergency asphalt repair.

WILSON COUNTY, Bridge Widening on SR 171 over I-40: Thurs 7/22 thru Wed 7/28 8PM-5AM. I-40 EB and WB will have intermittent lane closures for bridge widening activities.

I-40 Cookeville to Knoxville 

PUTNAM COUNTY I-40 resurfacing from east of SR-56 (MM 281) to west of SR-136 (MM 287): The contractor will be performing nightly lane closures Sunday through Thursday from 7:00 PM – 6:00 AM. Work will consist of paving operations. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone.

PUTNAM COUNTY I-40 EB bridge repair and resurfacing from west of Falling Water River Bridge (MM 291) to the ramp from SR-24 (US-70N / MM 300): The contractor will be performing nightly lane closures Sunday through Thursday from 7:00 PM – 6:00 AM. The contractor will be installing construction signs throughout project. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY I-40 TDOT Maintenance both directions from MM 311 to MM 339: Crews will perform paving operations on I-40 in both directions. Work will begin on 08/01/2021 from the 311MM to 312MM Eastbound. On 08/02/2021 work will be performed from the 312MM to the 313MM Eastbound. On 08/03/2021 work will be performed from the 339MM to the 337MM Westbound and the 317MM to 316MM Westbound. These paving operations will last from 7 PM to 6 AM each day.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY I-40 repair of the bridges over SR-1 (US-70) at MM 328.5:  During this report period, I-40 in both directions near MM 328 may have nighttime lane closures and pavement marking activities. SR-1 (US-70) may be reduced to one lane with traffic signals near LM 24 at Crab Orchard, TN for bridge repairs. Motorists should exercise caution and pay attention to the temporary traffic signals as they travel through the work zone.

ROANE COUNTY I-40 West between Mile Markers 340 and 344: Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures at various times through this slope stabilization project. Motorists should be alert for workers present, reduced speeds, lane shifts, and use extreme caution through this area.

ROANE COUNTY, I-40 East near Mile Marker 353:  Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning as crews set portable barrier rails through this slope stabilization project.  Motorists should be alert for workers present, slow traffic, and use extreme caution through this area.

Regional (Multi-county) Road Work

DEKALB AND CUMBERLAND COUNTY REGION 2 The random on-call pavement marking on various interstate and state routes: Contractor will be retracing pavement markings on various interstate and state routes in Dekalb and Cumberland county. Work will be performed using mobile operations. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone.

DEKALB AND WARREN COUNTY SR-56 Construction of bridges and paving from south of Warren-Dekalb County line to East Bryant St: The contractor will continue installing concrete box culverts and drainage structures. Grade work, bridge work, paving operations, and utility work on the new roadway alignment are ongoing. Traffic is still using the existing SR-56. However, motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction equipment adjacent to roadway. Flaggers may be present to move equipment across roadway, unload equipment, or complete utility work. The contractor is currently performing grade work at various locations throughout the project. A traffic shift in Smithville will remain in place to allow the contractor to complete this work. A diversion remains in place for Williams Road to allow the contractor to construct the new alignment. The speed limit has been reduced to 45 mph in the construction zone. Motorists should use caution in this area and watch for flaggers and construction equipment.

State Road Construction

CLAY COUNTY SR-53 bridge repair over Dry Fork Creek (LM 1.3) and Mill Creek (LM 2.5): The contractor has opened both lanes of traffic on the bridges located at LM 1.35 and 2.50. The contractor still must place an epoxy overlay on the bridge located at LM 2.50. This work will occur later. During this work, the contractor will close one lane of traffic and will utilize flaggers to facilitate traffic through the work zone.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-28 (US-127) bridge construction and paving from north of I-40 (LM 17.8) to near Potato Farm Road (LM 22.7): Construction signs have been installed with erosion control and clearing activities are in progress. Utility relocation for the gas line is also in progress. Temporary lane closures or traffic stoppages will be necessary as construction activities continue. Motorists should use caution while traveling through the work zone.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-101 (Peavine Road) Grading, drainage, and paving from Firetower Road to Westchester/Catoosa Boulevard: Motorists should use caution while driving along Peavine Road. The posted speed limit from I-40 to Tuttle Lane is now 45 MPH. The existing speed limit within Fairfield Glade remains at 30 MPH. Temporary lane closures and/or traffic stoppages may be needed as the contractor completes punch list activities. Motorists should reduce speed on Peavine Road and be alert for construction personnel/equipment entering and exiting the roadway.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-282 construction of small drainage structures at LM 2.4: Construction signs and temporary traffic signals have been installed. The contractor is installing the box culvert on SR-282 Dunbar Road near War Eagle Drive this week and weekend (July 28-August 2, 2021). Dunbar Road will be reduced to one lane with temporary traffic signals and flaggers as needed. Beginning Friday night, Dunbar Road will be closed throughout the weekend with detours posted for motorists. Traffic stoppages may be needed throughout the week to accommodate construction activities. Message boards are positioned on the project to assist motorists. RESTRICTIONS: 10′ (width) travel lane.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY The grading, drainage, construction of a concrete box bridge, signals and paving on proposed SR-462 from SR-28 (US-127N) (LM 3.1) to SR-298 (Genesis Road) (LM 4.6) in Crossville: Construction signs are being installed, and the contractor will begin erosion control and clearing activities which may require temporary lane closures and/or traffic stoppages. Utility relocation activities are in progress.

DEKALB COUNTY SR-26 (US-70) construction from near SR-53 (LM 2) to near SR-96 (LM 6.1): The contractor has begun clearing operations, installing erosion control measures, and water line relocation. Intermittent lane closures and flagging operations are expected. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone.

JACKSON COUNTY SR-262 (GLADDICE HWY.) TDOT Maintenance eastbound from LM 7.9 to LM 8.6: Due to slope/shoulder repair, SR 262 from LM 7.9 to LM 8.6 is reduced to one lane until repairs are complete.

PUTNAM COUNTY SR-24 (NASHVILLE HWY.) Utility Work both directions at LM 11.07: Flaggers will be present for aerial utility work approximately one mile west of the SR-56/SR-24 intersection. Signs will be present, and motorists should use caution and be prepared to stop between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM from 07/22/21 through 08/04/21.

PUTNAM COUNTY SR-56 (GAINESBORO HWY.) Permitted Work northbound at LM 3.3: Temporary lane closures will be present during daytime hours as a turn lane is constructed at Mopar Lane. A northbound shoulder closure will remain in place as work continues. Motorists should be aware of all construction signage when traveling through the work zone.

PUTNAM COUNTY SR-135 (Burgess Falls Road) grading, drainage, signals and paving at the intersection of West Cemetery Road (LM 6.6): The contractor continues roadside grading operations, North of Meadow Wood Drive. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone.

PUTNAM COUNTY SR-24 (US-70N) slide repair near LM 30.1: The contractor has installed barrier rail and begun excavation work. Traffic will be reduced to one lane and controlled by temporary traffic signals at each end of the project. Be prepared to stop when traveling through the work zone.

SMITH COUNTY, SR 25 Rockfall Mitigation: Thurs 7/15 thru Wed 7/21 9AM-2:45PM. SR 25 is reduced to one lane continuously. Traffic is being controlled by temporary traffic signal.

WARREN COUNTIES longitudinal joint stabilization on various state routes: During the daytime, the contractor will have short term lane closures on Warren SR-286. During this time one lane of traffic will be closed while contractors are present. Please use caution when traveling through the area.

WARREN COUNTY SR-8 resurfacing from Van Buren County line (LM 0.0) to north of Wildwood Road (LM 4.3): During this report period, the contractor will have lane closures in place while performing resurfacing operations on SR-8. Flaggers will be present to assist traffic flow as needed. Message Boards were placed 07/24/2021 for advanced notification and traffic control signs will be installed Friday 07/30/2021.
