UPPER CUMBERLAND – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) and several local governments have significant highway construction going on throughout the Upper Cumberland region that will drastically impact travelers. The following are the traffic advisories for construction throughout the Upper Cumberland for Jan 20-26 listed by county and an estimated completion date.
Interstate Construction:
I-40 Cookeville to Nashville
WILSON COUNTY I-40, Bridge widening on SR 171 over I-40 – from mm 225 to mm 226
– Nightly, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m., I-40 EB and WB will have intermittent lane closures for bridge widening activities.
DAVIDSON COUNTY, I-40 The resurfacing on I-40 from Old Hickory Blvd. to Arlington Ave: There will be multiple alternating lane closures and multiple alternating ramp closures on I-40 between Old Hickory Blvd and Arlington Ave for milling, paving and striping from mm 216 to mm 217.
I-40 Cookeville to Knoxville
ROANE COUNTY, I-40 West between Mile Markers 340 and 344: Motorists should be alert for possible lane closures at various times through this slope stabilization project. Motorists should be alert for workers present, reduced speeds, lane shifts, and use extreme caution through this area.
ROANE COUNTY, I-40 East near Mile Marker 355: On Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022 and Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2022, motorists should be alert for possible lane closures between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. as crews perform roadway maintenance activities. Motorists should be alert for workers present, slow or stopped traffic, expect potential delays, and use extreme caution through this area.
ROANE COUNTY, I-40 West near Mile Marker 360: On Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, motorists should be alert for possible lane closures between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. as crews perform hazmat cleanup activities from a previous incident. Motorists should be alert for workers present, slow or stopped traffic, expect potential delays, and use extreme caution through this area.
KNOX COUNTY, I-40 East and West between Mile Markers 369 and 375: Motorists should be alert for possible temporary lane closures nightly between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning through this resurfacing project. Motorists should be alert for workers present, slowed traffic, expect potential delays, and use extreme caution through this area.
Regional (Multi-county) Road Work
CANNON AND WARREN COUNTY SR-1 (US-70S) bridge repair and paving from east of Lincoln Lane (LM 11) in Cannon County to Robinson Road (LM 9.4) in Warren County: The contractor will be working on the shoulder of the road completing ADA ramps and sidewalks throughout the project. The contractor may have intermitted lane closures for maintenance operations throughout the project.
DEKALB AND WARREN COUNTY SR-56 Construction of bridges and paving from south of Warren-Dekalb County line to East Bryant St: The contractor will continue installing concrete box culverts and drainage structures. Grade work, bridge work, paving operations, and utility work on the new roadway alignment are ongoing. The contractor will utilize flagging operations throughout the project for grade work and utilities. Traffic is shifted onto the detour between SR-288 and Old Blue Springs Road for the contractor to complete grade work in the area. Traffic shifts in Smithville will remain from South College Street to the end of project to allow contractor to complete work. There is a temporary diversion for Ferrell Rd, and one remains in place for Williams Road to allow contractor to construct new alignment. Motorists should use caution in this area while flaggers are present to direct traffic. The speed limit has been reduced to 45 mph in the construction zone. Motorists should use caution in this area.
State Road Construction
CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-28 (US-127) bridge construction and paving from north of I-40 (LM 17.8) to near Potato Farm Road (LM 22.7): Construction signs and erosion control measures have been installed. The contractor continues grading activities which will include embankment fill, storm drain installation, and placement of graded solid rock. Temporary lane closures and/or periodic traffic stoppages will be necessary. Utility relocations for gas, water, sewer, and electric are in progress which may require setting of portable barrier rail along the roadway. Motorists should use caution while traveling through the work zone and be aware of reduced speed zones.
CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-24 (US-70 N.) Utility Work northbound from LM 15.01 to LM 13.09: Shoulder, single lane closures, and rolling roadblock between Northside Drive and Creston Road. Motorists should reduce speed and be prepared to stop. Trucks, signage, cones, and flaggers will be present, 01/06/22 through 02/02/22 from 9 am – 2 pm.
CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-298 (GENESIS RD.) Utility Work both directions from LM 2.42 to LM 5.92: Shoulder, single lane closures, and rolling roadblock between Cook Road and Wild Azalea Trail. Motorists should reduce speed and be prepared to stop. Trucks, signage, cones, and flaggers will be present, 12/02/21 through 02/02/22 from 9 am – 2 pm.
CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-462 from SR-28 (US-127N / LM 3.1) to SR-298 (Genesis Road/LM 4.6) in Crossville: Construction signs and erosion control measures are installed. Utility relocation activities for gas and sewer are in progress along with work on the adjoining project. Construction activities may require temporary lane closures and/or traffic stoppages on Interstate Drive and Genesis Road. Motorists should use caution while traveling through the work zone and be aware of reduced speed zones on Interstate Drive.
DEKALB COUNTY SR-26 (US-70) grading, drainage, and construction of retaining walls and paving from near SR-53 (LM 2) to near SR-96 (LM 6.1): The contractor continues roadside grading operations, installing erosion control measures, and water, gas, and electric line relocation. This will result in intermittent lane closures. Blasting operations may also result in brief road closures. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone.
JACKSON COUNTY SR-53 (N. GRUNDY QUARLES HWY.) Utility Work both directions from LM 16.25 to LM 21.54: Shoulder, single lane closures, and an all stop for aerial crossings at the intersection of SR-53 and SR-85 and Sugar Creek Road. Motorists should reduce speed and be prepared to stop. Trucks, signage, cones, and flaggers will be present, 12/09/21 through 02/02/22 from 8 am – 3 pm.
PUTNAM COUNTY SR-111 concrete pavement repair: THP assisted rolling roadblock starting from SR-136 S Jefferson Avenue to Quinland Lake Road. There will be law enforcement, utility personnel, message trucks, advanced warning signs along the route including at the on and off ramps along SR-111. Motorists should be prepared to stop between 6:00AM – 7:00AM on 01/23/22 with a rain date of 01/30/22.
PUTNAM COUNTY SR-111/SPRING STREET: The contractor may have short term shoulder and/or lane closures in order to perform guardrail repair. These closures will take place on the highway nightly Sunday through Thursday from 7 PM to 6 AM and daily Monday through Friday on state routes. At least one travel lane will remain open to traffic at all times on the interstate, and flaggers will be present on state routes during any work that is performed.
PUTNAM COUNTY SR-136 construction from north of the SR-111 interchange to south of the I-40 interchange: The contractor will be clearing and installing erosion control measures. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone.
PUTNAM COUNTY SR-24 (NASHVILLE HWY.) Utility Work eastbound from LM 11.85 to LM 12.70: Shoulder and single lane closures from Gainesboro Hwy to Double Springs Road. Motorists should reduce speed and be prepared to stop. Trucks, signage, cones, and flaggers will be present, 01/20/22 through 01/26/22 from 8 am – 3 pm.
PUTNAM COUNTY SR-24 (US-70N) slide repair near LM 30.1: The contractor has installed barrier rail and will continue retaining wall construction. Traffic will be reduced to one lane and controlled by temporary traffic signals at each end of the project. Be prepared to stop when traveling through the work zone.
WHITE COUNTY SR-1 (W. BOCKMAN WAY) TDOT Bridge Inspection both directions at LM 9.35: Bridge inspection will be performing its 2-year inspection on the SR-001 bridge over Calfkiller River at LM 9.35 on Monday, 1/24/2022 from 8 am until 2 pm. One lane will be closed with traffic control in place.
WHITE COUNTY SR-111 (SPENCER HWY.) TDOT Bridge Inspection both directions at LM 6.37: Bridge inspection will be performing its 2-year inspection on the left SR-111 bridge over Calfkiller River at LM 17.67 on Tuesday, 1/25/2022 from 2 pm until 3 pm. One lane will be closed with traffic control in place.
WHITE COUNTY SR-285 (E. GOOSENECK RD.) TDOT Bridge Inspection both directions at LM 1.46: Bridge inspection will be performing its 2-year inspection on the left SR-285 bridge over Calfkiller River at LM 1.46 on Wednesday, 1/26/2022 from 8 am until 2 pm.
