UPPER CUMBERLAND – Two Upper Cumberland tourist attractions will receive grant funds during a pair of public celebrations this week. Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett will present the grant checks in Cumberland and Putnam counties Friday, March 27.

From 8 a.m.-8:30 a.m. Hargett will visit the Cumberland Homesteads Tower Association (CHTA), located at 96 Highway 68, Crossville, for a grant presentation. The Cumberland Homesteads, built as one of FDR’s New Deal projects, will receive $3,600 for archival supplies as well as contracted archival work.

Then from 9 a.m.-9:30 a.m., a similar grant presentation will take place at the Monterey Train Depot, 1 E. Depot St., Monterey. The Monterey Depot Museum, one of the region’s newer attractions, opening in 2012, will receive $2,000 for shelving as well as archival supplies. The museum not only tells the story of the railroad and other modes of transportation, but the history of the people of the region as well.
