COOKEVILLE – Plans for the Shoppes at Eagle Pointe, a retail development along Interstate Drive, have been circulating for months. Now it seems the project, which would span 40 acres on one of Cookeville’s busiest strips, is finally moving forward.

City officials met with developers yesterday, while state environmental approvals are also in the works for the development, which will locate next to and behind Logan’s, Buffalo Wild Wings and Cheddars restaurants on Restaurant Row. The project will include 250,000 square feet of retail space at a cost of $45 million. Major retailers – which Cookeville Mayor Ricky Shelton said will be “new to the Cookeville market” – will including grocery, sporting goods, apparel, home goods and several new restaurants. There was no official word on exactly what those brands would be.

“We cannot comment on tenants except to say that it will not include Target,” Shelton said.

If environmental approval is given, construction could begin in May for a late summer 2016 completion, Shelton said. The project is a joint venture between Browning Development Solutions and CHM Development LLC. In past projects, Browning has worked with chains such as Qdoba, Chick-fil-A, McAlisters Deli, Hampton Inn & Suites and Academy Sports + Outdoors, among others. Browning’s website lists the Shoppes project as a “proposed retail shopping center development with outparcel currently underway in Cookeville.”
