Tinch named new Burks Elementary Principal

PUTNAM COUNTY – Putnam County Director of Schools Corby King and members of the Putnam County School Board are excited to announce Mrs. Heather Tinch as the next principal to lead Burks Elementary School. Kevin Maynard, Burks Elementary principal, is retiring at the end of the 2020-2021 school year. 

Tinch is a Fentress County native with 22 years of experience in education. She served 14 years as a classroom teacher before spending the last eight years as the assistant principal at Prescott South Middle School (PSMS). She received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Tennessee Technological University as well as her master’s in instructional leadership and her ED.S. in instructional leadership. 

Prior to entering administration, Tinch was a third and fifth grade teacher at Allardt Elementary School. In her 10 years of teaching at Prescott South Middle School, she served as the seventh-grade social studies teacher as well as the fifth/sixth grade reading and social studies teacher. Tinch held roles such as an internal coach for School Wide Positive Behavior Supports, chairperson for social studies, new teacher mentor and yearbook advisor. From 2013-2015, Tinch was a state of Tennessee CORE coach for social studies literacy and CORE coach for literacy in middle grades. 

Upon being offered and accepting the position to lead Burks Elementary School, Tinch stated, “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead Burks Elementary as their principal. I was raised in a small community much like Monterey, so I am excited about this opportunity. I look forward to getting to know the students, faculty, families at Burks as well as the Monterey community more in the 2021-2022 school year.”
