COOKEVILLE – Women who have earned their degrees from Tennessee Tech University and many of those working at the university now are working in science in fields from chemical engineering to cybersecurity. In honor of Women in Science Day on Friday, Feb. 11, here are a few Tennessee Tech women who have been featured in the media for their accomplishments:
- Ann Massey, working more than 30 years in the professional services industry, was recently appointed to the board of directions of Kleinfelder Group, Inc. The group is a leading engineering, design, construction management, construction materials inspection and testing and environmental professional services firm. - Holly Stretz, a Tennessee Tech chemical engineering professor, was featured for her research on decay of carbon-based components in the environment and their impact on surface water. - Amy Elliot, a scientific leader in the field of 3D printing of metals and ceramics at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, was named to Knoxville’s 40 Under 40 list and discussed what she has learned in her professional career. - Tania Datta, an associate professor in civil and environmental engineering, has worked on numerous projects involving water. - Charlotte M. Farmer, magna cum laude graduate with bachelor’s in chemical engineering from Tennessee Tech, was selected as senior vice president and chief operating officer of Underwriters Laboratories. - Chemistry major Rachel Baker received the 2021 Derryberry Award, Tennessee Tech’s highest student honor. She was chosen for her leadership, community service and academic success. - Logan Quillen was the first student to complete Tennessee Tech’s new K-12 computer science education program with a Master of Arts in educational technology and computer science education.
