UPPER CUMBERLAND – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has significant highway construction going on throughout the Upper Cumberland region that will drastically impact travelers.
The following are the traffic advisories for interstate construction throughout the Upper Cumberland for Sept. 12-18, listed by county and an estimated completion date.
CUMBERLAND COUNTY TDOT Maintenance on I-40 in both directions from MM 313 to MM 338: TDOT Maintenance crews will perform patching operations on I-40 in both directions. This work will affect all lanes of travel through the area. They will begin by closing the left lane in each direction. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone. The work will be performed under nightly lane closures from 8 PM to 6 AM. The project is scheduled to begin on 09/08/19 with an estimated completion date of 09/20/19.
CUMBERLAND COUNTY I-40 Construction of a truck climbing lane EB near MM 339, including grading, drainage, and paving: Construction signs, guardrail (westbound), and portable barrier rail (eastbound) have been installed. The contractor has begun grade work in the median behind portable barrier rail. Motorists are encouraged to reduce speed, use caution, and be aware of construction personnel in the work zone and equipment that will be entering/exiting the roadway. Estimated project completion date is June 2020.
PUTNAM COUNTY I-40 near MM 296 Bridge repair on Rocky Point Road over I-40: Rocky Point Road Bridge at LM 9.31 over I-40 is closed due to bridge repairs and will re-open November 2019. A detour is in place to guide motorists around the bridge closure. The contractor will be performing lane closures from MM 297 to MM 295 in both the eastbound and westbound direction on I-40 during this period. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone. Estimated project completion date is November 2019.
PUTNAM COUNTY I-40 WB Resurfacing and bridge repair from Falling Water River to the ramp from US-70N (SR-24): During this report period, the contractor will begin removing construction signs. Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through the work zone. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.
SMITH COUNTY The repair of the I-40 WB bridge over Caney Fork River at M.M. 263.1: Thursday September 12 and Sunday September 15, 7PM-5AM, I-40 westbound will be down to one lane for milling and paving operations at MM 263. One westbound lane will remain open.
The following are the traffic advisories for state roads across the Upper Cumberland for Sept. 12-18, listed by county with the road, extent of work and an estimated completion date.
CANNON, MARION, AND WARREN COUNTY SR-96 Resurfacing from the Rutherford County line to the Wilson County line, SR-150 resurfacing from north of Sequatchie Mountain Road to the Grundy County line, SR-156 resurfacing from east of River Landing to east of Nickajack Landing Road, and SR-287 resurfacing from SR-379 to south of Shelbyville Road:Resurfacing operations on SR-287 Warren County, SR-150 Marion County, and SR-96 Cannon County sections have been completed. Resurfacing operations have begun on SR-156 in Marion County. During construction, the road will be reduced to one lane, flaggers and a pilot car will be used to guide traffic flow through the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and watch for construction equipment and personnel in the roadway. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.
CLAY AND OVERTON COUNTY SR-111 resurfacing in Overton County from the Putnam County line to north of SR-293 and on SR-52 from west of Poor House Road in Clay County to west of Robbins Lane in Overton County: The contractor is currently performing paving operations. During this work, the route will be reduced to one lane in each direction. The contractor will utilize flaggers to facilitate traffic flow through the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to use caution through the work zone and obey the posted speed limit. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.
CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-1 (US-70) Emergency slope stabilization near LM 26.6: Construction signs, portable barrier rail, and temporary traffic signals have been installed. SR-1 (US-70) will be reduced to one lane between Godsey Road and Renegade Mountain Parkway while slope stabilization activities are in process. Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution as they travel through the work zone. Estimated project completion date is November 2019.
CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-1 (US-70) Resurfacing from east of Pomona Road to west of SR-24 (US-70N) and on SR-28 (US-127) from south of Sawmill Road to north of SR-392 and on SR-392 from north of Old Mail Road to SR-28 (US-127): Construction signs have been installed. Paving operations are complete on SR-1 (US-70S) and SR-392 (Miller Avenue). Remaining work includes the installation of permanent pavement markings, rumble stripes, and shoulder stone. The contractor will be paving on SR-28 (US-127). Motorists are encouraged to take note of the new traffic pattern – the center turn lane has been extended from Brookhaven subdivision south to Three Mile Creek. Flaggers will be used for temporary lane closures. Motorists should expect delays during the ongoing paving activities and be alert for construction personnel/equipment working on the roadway. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.
CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-101 (Peavine Road) Grading, drainage, and paving from Firetower Road to Westchester/Catoosa Boulevard: As grade work progresses, motorists should be alert for shifts in traffic patterns to allow for construction activities. The posted speed limit has been reduced from 45 MPH to 35 MPH within the work zone. Temporary lane closures may be needed to support ongoing work. Dartmoor Road will be closed between Peavine Road and Wiltshire Heights to install a storm drain; detour signs are in place. This closure is scheduled to last for approximately 2 weeks. Motorists are encouraged to reduce speeds on Peavine Road and be alert for construction personnel/equipment entering and exiting the roadway. Estimated project completion date is November 2020.
DEKALB COUNTY SR-146 Resurfacing from the Cannon County line to north of Game Ridge Road: The contractor will be installing pavement markings on DeKalb SR-146 during this period. Motorists should expect temporary delays. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone. Estimated project completion date is November 2019.
DEKALB COUNTY TDOT Contractor on SR-96 (DALE RIDGE RD.) in both directions from LM 12.5 to LM 13.5:The US Army CORPS of Engineers are performing repairs to Center Hill Dam and SR 96 across the dam. The contractor will have SR96 reduced to one lane across the dam and traffic will be controlled by a temporary traffic signal. Motorists should expect minimal delays
DEKALB AND WARREN COUNTY SR-56 Construction of bridges and paving from south of Warren-Dekalb County line to East Bryant St: The contractor has begun to install temporary construction signs and do some preliminary tree clearing. During construction, motorists are encouraged to use caution and watch for construction equipment and personnel in the roadway. Estimated project completion date is May 2022.
FENTRESS COUNTY Rotten Fork Road over Rotten Fork of the Wolf River Bridge Replacement: The contractor is currently working on new bridge at Rotten Fork Road at LM 0.135. Rotten Fork Road remains open to traffic while the new bridge is being constructed. Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction equipment adjacent to roadway. Estimated project completion date is November 2019.
FENTRESS COUNTY SR-28 (US-127) Resurfacing from south of Davis Road to north of SR-52 and from north of Lacy Road to north of Mustang Lane: The contractor has completed paving operations and is scheduled to be on site intermittently to perform work on punch list items. Motorists are encouraged to use caution through the work zone. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.
FENTRESS COUNTY Vines Ridge Road over Big Laurel Creek Bridge Replacement: Vines Ridge Road remains closed at LM 1.06 and will remain closed until the new bridge is constructed and in place. This closure is currently scheduled to last through 11/30/19. Motorists should seek an alternate route around Vines Ridge Road near the location of construction. Estimated project completion date is November 2019.
FENTRESS AND OVERTON COUNTY SR-85 Emergency slide repairs at various locations: The roadway is closed from LM 18.4 to LM 22.4 in Overton county. SR-85 is also closed in Fentress County between LM 5.75 and 8.00. The contractor is continuing work on this contract in the two areas listed where the roadway is closed. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and seek alternate routes. Estimated project completion date is January 2020.
JACKSON COUNTY Utility Work on SR-56 (JENNINGS CREEK HWY.) in both directions from LM 23.57 to LM 24.38: Mobile lane closures for utility work will take place on Jennings Creek Hwy between Hwy 151 and Ward Fork Road. Signage and flaggers will be present during this work. Motorists are encouraged to use caution. Work will begin 08/19/19 and last through 09/13/19 between 9AM and 3PM.
JACKSON COUNTY SR-53 Resurfacing from the Smith County line (LM 0) to north of New Salem Road (LM 9.02), including repair of the bridge over Flynn’s Creek (LM 7.84): The contractor is scheduled to be on site intermittently performing work on punch list items. Motorists are encouraged to use caution through the work zone. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.
JACKSON AND PUTNAM COUNTY SR-53 Resurfacing in Jackson County from north of SR-135 to the Clay County line and on SR-56 from north of US-70N (SR-24) in Putnam County to north of Old Creek Road in Jackson County: The contractor has completed paving operations and is scheduled to be on site intermittently performing work on punch list items. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and watch for construction equipment in the roadway. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.
MACON COUNTY, Safety Improvements on SR 52 from SR 141 to Old Highway 52, Daily, 6AM-6PM: There will be alternating lanes closures on SR 52 in both directions for paving and pavement marking activities. One lane will remain open.
OVERTON COUNTY Utility Work on SR-84 (STATE HWY. 84) in both directions from LM 0.1 to LM 0.7:Utility work will take place along US-84 from LM 0.1 before the Putnam County line to LM 0.7 on US-84. Signage and flaggers will be present during this work. Motorists are encouraged to use caution. Work will begin 09/16/19 and last through 09/20/19 from 9 AM to 3 PM.
OVERTON COUNTY SR-111 Miscellaneous safety improvements at the intersections of SR-293: The contractor currently has SR-111 from LM 2.25 to LM 3.75 reduced to one lane in each direction. This lane closure will remain in place until contract completion currently scheduled for 10/31/19. In addition to the lane closure, the speed limit through the work zone has been decreased to 55 MPH for the safety of the motoring public and the contractor’s personnel. SR-293 is affected at the intersection of SR-111 with the median crossings being closed for the duration of the project. Motorists are encouraged to obey 55 MPH speed limit and watch for construction operations adjacent to the roadway. RESTRICTIONS: Loads wider than 14′ should seek alternate route. Estimated project completion date is October 2019.
OVERTON COUNTY SR-294 Bridge repair over Big Eagle Creek: The contractor is scheduled to install a temporary signal system and will close one lane of the bridge to allow work to be performed. This closure will be in effect through 06/15/20. Motorists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the work zone and should be prepared to stop at the signal. RESTRICTIONS: No loads wider than 10 feet. Estimated project completion date is June 2020.
PUTNAM COUNTY Utility Work on SR-136 (N. WASHINGTON AVE.) in both directions from LM 4.32 to LM 5.51:A road closure for utility work will take place between 10th Street and 11th Street. Message boards, detour signs, and flaggers will be present during this work. Motorists are encouraged to use caution. Work will take place on 09/12/19 from 3 AM to 3 PM. The road will reopen between 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM to allow for school traffic to flow through the work zone.
PUTNAM COUNTY Utility Work on SR-24 (NASHVILLE HWY.) in both directions from LM 8.64 to LM 10.03: Mobile lane closures for utility work will occur on Nashville Hwy between Maddux Ridge Road and 1st Avenue North. Signage and flaggers will be present during this work. Motorists are encouraged to use caution. Work will begin 09/12/19 and last through 09/20/19 between 9 AM and 3 PM.
PUTNAM COUNTY Utility Work on SR-84 (LIVINGSTON HWY.) in both directions from LM 10.03 to LM 13.37: Mobile lane closures for utility work will take place on Livingston Hwy between Woodcliff Road and Stamp Shady Grove Road. Trucks with warning lights, signage, and flaggers will be present during this work. Motorists are encouraged to use caution. Work will begin 08/15/19 through 10/14/19 between 8 AM and 3 PM.
PUTNAM COUNTY SR-136 Resurfacing from US-70N (SR-24) to north of Whiteaker Springs Road: Work will be performed on existing sidewalks and concrete curb ramps. This will result in lane closures each night on SR-136 between the hours of 7 PM and 6 AM. Motorists should use caution and be prepared for slowed traffic when traveling through the work zone. Estimated project completion date is June 2020.
SMITH COUNTY, Resurfacing S.R. 96 from the Putnam County Line to the Putnam County Line, Daily, 9AM-3:30PM: There will be temporary lane closures on SR 96 in both directions for paving activities. One lane will remain open.
SMITH COUNTY, Resurfacing on SR 53 from SR 141/SR 264 to US 70N (SR 24),Daily, 9AM-3:30PM: There will be temporary lane closures on SR 53 in both directions for paving activities. One lane will remain open. Saturday, September 14 at 7AM through Monday, September 16 at 5AM, There will be temporary lane closures on SR 53 at the bridge over SR 24 for concrete repair work.
VANBUREN COUNTY SR-284 Resurfacing from Park Road to SR-30: During construction, the road will be reduced to one lane, flaggers and a pilot car will be used to guide traffic flow through the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and watch for construction equipment and personnel in the roadway. Estimated project completion date is November 2019.
WARREN COUNTY SR-288 Construction of a concrete bulb-tee beam bridge over Collins River, including grading, drainage and paving: The Bridge is currently reduced to one 10.5-foot lane to allow the contractor to construct the new bridge. While the bridge is down to one lane, traffic will be maintained and controlled by a temporary signal. Motorists should expect periodic delays and use caution in the work zone. RESTRICTIONS: 10.5-foot max width Estimated project completion date is November 2019.
WARREN COUNTY SR-8 over Collins River Bridge Repair: Traffic signals have been removed; the bridge is open to traffic. While the contractor performs final clean up, temporary flaggers may be present for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Motorists should expect periodic delays and use caution in the work zone. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.
WHITE COUNTY SR-1 (US-70) Repair of the bridge over the Calfkiller River in Sparta: The Calfkiller Bridge in Sparta will be transitioning to the second of three phases of lane closures. These phases will affect between Wilson Street and Church Street. The first phase will restrict the west bound traffic to one lane, while retaining the left turn lane and two lanes of traffic in the east bound direction. The second phase will restrict both eastbound and westbound to one lane in each direction. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.
WHITE COUNTY SR-1 (US-70S) Resurfacing from the Van Buren County line to SR-111: The contractor will be installing pavement markings throughout the project during daytime hours, resulting in temporary lane closures on SR-1 and SR-111. Motorists should use caution when traveling through the workzone and pay attention to all construction signage. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.
