PUTNAM COUNTY – Recently passed legislation paved the way for first ever primaries for Putnam County School Board seats, but it is having little effect on the local election other than candidates being forced to declare a party affiliation.
Three school board seats are up for election, District 2, District 4 and District 6. The remaining three seats will be up for election in 2024.
One Republican in each district filed qualifying papers to run in the Republican Primary. Since there was no opposition in the primary, each of those candidates will move on to the August General Election. No Democrat candidates filed papers to run in the primary.
In District 2, Republican Jill Ramsey is unopposed in the August election, and will be sworn into that seat in September. Ramsey will fill the seat vacated by retiring board member Celeste Gammons.
District 4 has incumbent Republican David M. McCormick facing challenger Independent Tracey Bilbrey in the Aug. 4 General Election.
District 6 will see Republican Kerry W. Ledbetter challenging Independent Kevin M. Maynard for the seat being vacated by Jerry Maynard.
