FENTRESS COUNTY – An open house to celebrate Roane State’s new campus in Fentress County will be held on Friday, Oct. 9, from 1 to 4 p.m. Central Time. The public, along with officials and current and prospective students, are cordially invited to tour the building.
Face masks and social distancing will be required inside the facility as part of the college’s COVID-19 safety precautions. Students, staff and guests will also be required to complete Roane State’s wellness screening on the day of their visit in order to be checked in. The wellness screening is available online at roanestate.edu/checkup.
Located at 6844 South York Highway in the Clarkrange community, the campus is an 8,000-square-foot facility in a former commercial structure that was extensively renovated to accommodate a growing student enrollment.
“We are excited to welcome folks to our new, larger facility and to be a part of this close-knit community,” said Tinisha Key, director of the community college’s Fentress County campus. “Our campus gives a warm hometown feel that our students desire. Stop by and see us so we can help you achieve your academic goals.”
She said enrollment in the former 3,000-square-foot campus at York Institute had increased substantially. Roane State established a campus in Fentress County in 2004 at the institute and moved from portable buildings into a remodeled institute building with three classrooms in 2016. The new campus has six classrooms.
“Our new location includes state-of-the-art facilities, a spacious computer lab, Zoom capable classrooms, proctored testing, technology assistance, a student lounge with vending machines, offices and instructor areas,” Key said.
“Whether you are a first-time student, dual enrollment student or taking classes to advance your career and obtain an associate’s degree, Roane State welcomes you.”
“We can help you through application, registration and financial aid processes,” Key said. “Our staff is committed to providing accessible learning opportunities to students. Here you will find affordable, quality higher education classes delivered in a small class setting close to home.”
