Tree Lighting ceremony begins at 6 p.m

Cookeville – This year, Cookeville’s Christmas in the Park Tree Lighting ceremony has a new community service opportunity. The Putnam Education Partnership Foundation (PEP) will collect food for The Putnam County School Systems’ various food pantries at the event this Sunday at Dogwood Park at 6 p.m.

Attendees are being asked to bring non-perishable and ready to eat food items to donate before or during the event. Donation barrels will be taken up following the ceremony.

Katelyn Steakley, PEP executive director, extends her gratitude.

“I am elated that we were asked to be a part of the event this year,” said Steakley. “The food from this event will be distributed to the Student Services Food Pantry and the pantries at Upperman High School and Prescott South Middle School. These food pantries work to serve hungry students and their families in the school district. We hope everyone will make plans to attend the event on Sunday and bring food items with them.”
