The hospital received five stars, the highest rating, for patient recommendations according to Becker’s and CMS data

Ascension Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital has been named on Becker’s list of the hospitals patients are most likely to recommend according to data from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of health care Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) provided by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

The recommended star rating is determined by patients’ responses to the question, “Would you recommend this hospital to your friends and family?”

Ascension Saint Thomas Highlands received the highest rating of five stars, making it one of just three hospitals in the entire state to achieve this distinction. The hospital has served Sparta and surrounding communities since 1929. Ascension Saint Thomas Highlands is a Joint Commission accredited facility and is a part of the Saint Thomas Stroke Network.

The 60-bed facility provides a full range of medical services including 24-hour emergency care, behavioral health and rehabilitation services.

“There is no greater trust a patient can place in us than by recommending our care to their loved ones,” said Bob Peglow, Chief Administrative Officer, Ascension Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital. “Our five-star rating is a reflection of our caregivers’ dedication and the exceptional care they deliver every day.”

CMS issues 10 HCAHPS star ratings based on publicly reported measures. To qualify for a star rating, hospitals need to have at least 100 completed HCAHPS surveys over a four-quarter period. This data, collected from Oct. 2022 to Sept. 2023, is from CMS’ Provider Data Catalog and was published July 31.
