Article offers best practices for success during on-site instruction
Cookeville – Fortis Institute in Cookeville faculty members have published an article in the “Journal of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists.” “Helpful Tips for Radiologic Technology Students Starting Clinical Rotations” is a collaboration between Program Director Tamara Daniels, R.T. (R)(CT), and Clinical Coordinator Kristin Lockhart, R.T.(R)(CT).
The article provides clinical preceptors and staff technologists with practical advice on how to prepare for clinical rotations, while offering best practices that position radiologic technology students for success during on-site instruction.

“Our hope is this article will help students see the transition to clinical rotations as a new adventure in their learning experience,” said Daniels. “Our intention is for students to glean tips and insight. We want them to have the tools to combat nervousness or doubt.”
Lockhart elaborated, explaining that it is natural for students to feel nervous about patient interactions. “Our article demonstrates students are not alone in their apprehension – everyone has first day jitters,” she adds.
The hope is by reminding these professionals about the processes students go through prior to coming to the clinical setting they will be more supportive and reassuring, ultimately creating a better clinical experience.
