American Institute of Architects expects small gains nationally in 2025
February was a strong month for building construction in Putnam County, according to Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter.
“Feb. 2025 had 38 permits for $10.2 million worth of construction, with 24 of those being for new single-family residential homes,” according to the release.
Compared year-over-year, Feb. 2024 had 34 permits worth $8.2 million. New, single family homes comprised 22 of those. That upward trend also extends nationally with the country’s January construction spending estimated at $2,122.5 billion, 3.3% above Jan. 2024. According to fasacares.org (Foundation of the American Subcontractors Association) construction spending “for nonresidential buildings, commercial, industrial and institutional facilities, is projected to slow dramatically this year and next.”
The American Institute of Architects expects small gains of 2.2% in 2025 and 2.6% in 2026.
“Of these sectors, spending on institutional facilities is projected to see the strongest gains of 6.0% this year and 3.4% next year. Commercial construction spending is expected to increase by only 1.7% this year before climbing to 4.2% in 2026 while spending on the industrial sector should grow 2.6% this year before contracting by an almost equal amount of 2.5% next year,” according to the website.
“February permits generated $36,980 in fees which operate the Building Codes Department,” according to Porter. These numbers do not represent the four cities, only the county.
