COOKEVILLE – Tennessee Tech University will welcome Golden Eagle families to Cookeville for Family Weekend Sept. 10-12.
A full schedule of events for students to enjoy with their families is planned, along with the return of the Running of the Freshmen tradition at the Golden Eagle football team’s game in Tucker Stadium Saturday, Sept. 11 at 1:15 p.m.
This annual event is an opportunity for students and their families to come and see what life at Tennessee Tech is all about.
While most of this year’s Family Weekend events are returning to an in-person format, there is also a virtual component – a silent auction – and the university continues to take health and safety precautions, including requiring masks in campus buildings.
“We are really excited to have Family Weekend back on campus, we are really excited to have a lot of events that are feeling a bit more normal,” said Courtney Brehm, assistant director for new student and family programs at Tech. “I know our families are really excited to come back as well.
“For families, it is getting to come to campus and see what their student is up to, what are they doing, what is their life looking like here, especially for first time freshmen.”
Other activities include a Family Weekend scavenger hunt, family paint at the Art Jam, bowling, a magic show, tailgates and more.
Family weekend is packed with Tennessee Tech traditions such as the football game and the running of the freshman.
“One of the best parts is seeing all of the families out there tailgating and cheering on the golden eagles,” Brehm said.
