The Leapfrog Group collects and reports data related to safety, quality and other aspects of hospitals’ performance

Covenant Health Cumberland has earned another “A” hospital safety grade for Fall 2025 from The Leapfrog Group, marking the sixth consecutive “A” grade the hospital has received. Cumberland is designated as a “Straight A” hospital, defined as hospitals that have earned an “A” grade for the fall and have sustained that grade for the last five or more grading rounds.

Roughly 12% of eligible hospitals have earned this designation.

The Leapfrog Group collects and reports data related to safety, quality and other aspects of hospitals’ performance. Leapfrog assigns safety grades based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

“I am thrilled to celebrate the incredible efforts of our team at Cumberland Medical Center, which have culminated in yet another Leapfrog ‘A.’ Achieving our sixth consecutive ‘A’ demonstrates that this level of performance is ingrained in our culture and reflected in everything we do,” Randy Davis, president and chief administrative officer of Covenant Health Cumberland. “Our unwavering commitment to providing the best patient care is why we remain the only ‘A’-rated hospital in the Upper Cumberland Region.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program focused exclusively on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

Grades are updated twice annually, in the spring and fall.
