This on the heels of Dutch Bros recent opening of a new location in Rutherford County
The UCBJ has learned from officials within the organization that Dutch Bros Coffee (DB), a “high-growth operator and franchisor of drive-thru shops that focus on serving hand-crafted beverages,” may soon be calling Cookeville home.
“While espresso-based beverages are still at the core of what we do, Dutch Bros now offers a wide variety of unique, customizable cold and hot beverages that delight a broad array of customers. We believe Dutch Bros is more than just the products we serve—we are dedicated to making a massive difference in the lives of our employees, customers and communities,” according to a statement by the company.
This is on the heels of DB’s recent opening of a new location in Rutherford County. As of Dec. 2024, DB had 982 locations across 18 states. The company says its goal is to open 2,029 shops by 2029. DB says its quarter one sales have exceeded expectations. That growth and success could lead the company to a footprint expansion as it traverses south.
First Quarter 2025 Update, according to Dutch Bros includes:
- System shop openings totaled 27 shops through March 24th, with up to 3 additional shops expected to open through the end of the quarter
- System same shop sales1 increased 4.6% through March 24th, relative to the comparable period in 2024
- Adjusted selling, general, and administrative expenses (“Adjusted SG&A”) are expected to be approximately $56 million
“We are pleased to deliver quarter-to-date Q1 same shop sales above our expectations, supported by positive traffic and strong business momentum. This positive trend is a testament to the strength of our brand and the dedication of our team,” said Christine Barone, Chief Executive Officer and President of Dutch Bros in a release. “Last month, we proudly opened our 1,000th shop, and with a strong roadmap ahead, we are focused on our bold goal of reaching 2,029 shops in 2029. Led by field operations teams deeply rooted in our culture and hungry to grow and supported by a leadership team with complementary skills and firsthand knowledge of scale, we are well-positioned to deliver sustainable, long-term value while staying true to our mission of making a massive difference, one cup at a time.”
DB began in 1992 as a “pushcart by the railroad tracks” in downtown Grants Pass Oregon by Dane and Travis Boersma. It wasn’t long before the Coffee company attracted a huge fan base out west and began to grow. The expansion started in 2000 and moved across the Northwest.
According to the company, its mission is “to make a difference, one cup at a time.”
“In 2006 we started hosting company-wide givebacks.,” according to a statement by DB. ‘Thanks to our customers, we’re now able to help support our communities through Dutch Luv, Drink One for Dane and Buck for Kids.”
That initiative started in 2007 in honor of Boersma following his diagnosis with ALS.
The company recently announced a new development goal of over 7,000 shop openings. With those lofty goals and the Cookeville Micropolitan area ranking among the top 10 regions in the nation for population growth, the partnership could be a match made in heaven.
I guess we will have to wait and see. This is an ongoing story. Check back for details.
