Cookeville warns of fake Instagram account

COOKEVILLE – The city of Cookeville announced today that a fake social media account was purporting to be the city’s official account. The Instagram account “thecityofcookeville” is not an official municipal account. It is not endorsed, affiliated with, or managed by the city or elected leadership.

City Manager James Mills released the statement due to the multiple inquiries the city received related to controversial posts on the account. The city’s legal team is aware of the account and the account holder, and according to the statement, the account holder of the Instagram page has now updated their information.

The city’s official social media pages can be found through links on the city’s website www.cookeville-tn.gov.

The city is extending thanks to everyone who brought this their attention, and invites those interested to contact City Hall to inquire about official City of Cookeville media outlets at 931-526-9591.
