Construction begins on former Sears building

Hobby Lobby announced as one of two new tenants

COOKEVILLE — Rise Partners has announced that construction has begun on the former Sears in Jackson Plaza with DBS Corporation as the contractor and First Bank as the lender. Chattanooga-based Artech is the architect for the project.

“We are thrilled to announce we have started construction on the redevelopment of the former Sears,” said Matt Phillips, of Rise Partners. “The addition of a 55,000-square-foot Hobby Lobby and the future 20,000-square-foot national retailer will build upon Jackson Plaza’s history of success.”

Rise Partners closed on Jackson Plaza, a 350,000 SF shopping center located in Cookeville, on June 27. The redevelopment, which began this week, will subdivide the 80,000-square-foot former Sears building to create two new tenant spaces, one of which will be Hobby Lobby. In addition, Rise Partners has a signed lease with a national retailer new to the Cookeville market. The name of that retailer will be announced at a later date.

The project will complement the existing tenants, which include Belk, TJ Maxx, Old Navy, Dunham’s Sports, Food Lion, Books a Million and Petco.

Construction on the former Sears building is scheduled to be completed Summer 2019. Grand opening dates will be set by tenants and will be announced at a later date.
