Shopping center is expected to open in Oct. 2026
Construction is in full swing on The Willows Project at the corner of Willow Avenue and I-40.
With progress being made every day, excitement continues to build for the incoming Target, Home Depot and In-N-Out. With that kind of growth — and several Uber-popular establishments converging at one intersection — traffic concerns are rampant and for good reason. The possibility of a daily nightmare for motorists is very real.
Those concerns were recently addressed by the City of Cookeville, which released an announcement and accompanying video on social media.
“As development continues at The Willows, we know traffic is a top concern for many residents,” according to a statement by the City. “That’s why the City of Cookeville is actively planning roadway improvements to help keep traffic moving safely and efficiently.”

The shopping center is expected to open in Oct. 2026. Construction is being overseen by Development Management Group, LLC (DMG) of Nashville, along with CHM, developers of single-tenant, build-to-suit retail properties and regional shopping centers throughout the Southeast.
Cookeville Mayor Laurin Wheaton says the economic impact of The Willows will be significant.
“The economic impact this will have on our area is unprecedented, and it reflects the strength of our local economy. This will bring about opportunities our region has never had. With a development like this, Cookeville will be able to provide a space for businesses that our community has requested for years. It is so exciting to be a part of the partnership in making Cookeville a place where businesses, big and small, can call home,” said Wheaton.
