DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors nurses for their extraordinary clinical skills
Cookeville Regional Medical Center (CRMC) nurse Chrisinda Sasser Baker, R.N., has been named the latest recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
A grateful patient’s family shared thoughts on what made Baker special.
From the statement:
“Days before Thanksgiving last year, unexpectedly, my otherwise completely healthy husband had a medical emergency while driving, and he was rushed to the closest hospital by ambulance. My son and I followed in the car. We were all two hours from home at the time, on the freeway returning from a day trip to Knoxville. After a few hours in the ER with doctors administering a clot buster, we were then moved to the ICU, where we stayed for three days and two nights. The entire staff was incredible to us and made the terrible situation so much better.
However, Chrisinda stood out.
We had her for several shifts, and I felt like she treated us like we were family. Neither my husband nor I have spent much time in the hospital and also being two hours away from friends and family, this could have been an uncomfortable, unsettling experience, but she was so helpful and communicative and answered all of my questions.
She constantly offered to bring us water or juice, blankets and a pillow. She was like a wonderful host when you’re visiting someone’s home out of town. She also carefully explained everything that was happening, kept us updated with the timing and then would return to be sure the tests or meetings with doctors went well. This all happened over four months ago, but I have never forgotten her and have wondered how we might ever thank her. I found this form in a stack of papers and decided it wasn’t too late to write about her.”
The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors nurses for their extraordinary clinical skills and unwavering compassion. Patients, families, colleagues, and staff are all encouraged to nominate nurses who go above and beyond in delivering outstanding care.
Cookeville Regional Medical Center congratulates Chrisinda on this well-deserved honor and thanks her for exemplifying the values of excellence, empathy and dedication.
