Individual will state that you missed jury duty, owe money

Cookeville – If you are getting phone calls from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department asking for money, I’m sure the first thing that pops into your mind is “that could be a scam.”

Well, trust your gut.

Recently, the Putnam County Sherriffs Department announced on its Facebook page there is someone out there spoofing their phone number and using the name of an actual employee of the office. The individual will say “you missed jury duty and now have an active arrest warrant” unless you pay them money.

“The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office will never contact you by phone asking you for money,” according to the department. “That goes for any other Sheriff’s Office. If you have been a victim of this scam in Putnam County, please report it to dispatch at 931-528-8484.”
