The event series is designed to create an atmosphere of learning and sharing between high school and college students and conductors from the six-state region

Cookeville – Tennessee Tech University‘s School of Music will be hosting the 60th annual Festival of Winds and Percussion Feb. 10-11 in the Wattenbarger Auditorium of the Bryan Fine Arts Building. The Concert and Symphony Band performance will be Friday, Feb. 10, at 7:30 p.m. Following the performance will be a Troubadours Jazz Reception at 9 p.m. The Honors Bands concert will be Saturday, Feb. 11 at 5 p.m.

The event series is designed to create an atmosphere of learning and sharing between high school and college students and conductors from the six-state region. The annual event brings some of the nation’s finest conductors and composers to the Tech campus.

This event originally began as a composer festival, where composers would be welcome on campus to have their music performed by Tech ensembles. It included lectures, rehearsals and a concert. Over the years the event turned into what it is today. Now morphed into an honors band weekend, 250 students from across Tennessee come to Tech to work with music faculty and guest clinicians.

However, the composer element remains an important part of this event. This year’s clinicians include Joell Denton, Michele Fernandez and the composer in residence, Katahj Copley. In addition to Copley’s written pieces, each ensemble will perform a diverse selection of music.

All performances will be held in Wattenbarger Auditorium in the BFA Building. Concerts are free to attend and open to the public. In addition to the in-person experience, the School of Music will be streaming the performance at https://www.tntech.edu/fine-arts/music/live-stream.php.

The BFA Building is located at 1150 N. Dixie Avenue in Cookeville, Tennessee.
