Widespread Panic to perform at “Bluegrass Underground”

MCMINNVILLE – A special concert taping with Widespread Panic will take place 7 p.m. Monday, March 10, on the Emmy Award-winning PBS music event series “Bluegrass Underground.” Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7.

Billed “Widespread Panic: Live from The Underground,” the concert will be a totally acoustic “wood” performance. Bluegrass Underground is taped 333-feet underground within the Volcano Room of Cumberland Caverns. The performance will air nationally on PBS in the fall of 2014.

“We are thrilled to welcome Widespread Panic to the cave as part of the 2014 Wood Tour,” said Todd Mayo, the show’s creator and executive producer. “The cave, the band, patrons at the show and television audiences across the country are all in for a good time.”

The Bluegrass Underground television series debuted in September of 2011 and has now aired in 80 percent of American markets including Boston, New York, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, San Francisco, Seattle and hundreds of other cities. The concert-radio series has been airing weekly since 2008 on country music’s flagship station, 650 WSM-AM, immediately preceding the Grand Ole Opry.

First discovered in 1810, Cumberland Caverns is a registered U.S. National Natural Landmark, attracting thousands of visitors from around the world each year. The 1,000-foot subterranean path to the Volcano Room takes visitors past an underground waterfall and pool to the 500-seat amphitheater carved by water more than 3.5 million years.

Tickets are $75 and can be purchased at www.bluegrassunderground.com.
