The Pet Therapy Fund awards $3,000 to Cancer Center

COOKEVILLE – The Pet Therapy Fund at Cookeville Regional Medical Center (CRMC) continues its efforts to support The Cancer Center at Cookeville Regional by funding the purchase of “My Personal Treatment Journals” to be given to patients of the Cancer Center.

This funding effort was recommended by the Pet Therapy Fund advisory board, which also oversees the extensive community outreach efforts of the Pet Therapy Program at CRMC. In addition to the pet-assisted visits to patients of The Cancer Center, the Pet Therapy Program visits area schools, has a monthly Read with the Pet Therapy Dog at the Putnam County Library and visits preschools as well as a Senior Citizen group to share the benefits of pet therapy in the healing process.

Fundraisers to assist in supporting patient needs in the Cancer Center will feature “A Little Bit of Country” concert May 2 and the “Not Your Usual Tour of Homes” featuring dog houses built by area citizens that will be sold through silent auction June 28. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from these efforts go to the Pet Therapy Fund.
