COOKEVILLE – It’s that time of year again and all hands are on deck as the TSSAA BlueCross Bowl steering committee has begun planning this year’s high school football championships. Hundreds of volunteers are needed to help make the TSSAA BlueCross Bowl High School Football Championships a memorable event for the players and their families. The championship games will take place at Tennessee Tech’s Tucker Stadium Dec. 4-6. Ushers, ticket takers, parking attendants, souvenir program sales and ticket sellers are just a few of the areas where volunteers will be the key to making this a successful experience for everyone.
“The TSSAA BlueCross Bowl steering committee has been working for months to make this year’s championship better than ever,” Michelle Huddleston, volunteer coordinator, said. “But it’s our volunteers that are the key factor to making this event successful for our community and for our state.”
More than 700 volunteers will be needed over the three-day period. Those who have helped in the past know that it is a great opportunity to be a part of one of the biggest sporting events in Tennessee.
“This is a fantastic way for local residents to take part in something that so greatly impacts this community and our entire region,” said Phillip Baker, TSSAA steering committee chairman. “The BlueCross Bowl and the volunteer spirt that accompanies it is one of the things many things that makes Cookeville special. We want everyone here to be a part of that.”
Organizations, businesses, churches, clubs and other groups can all volunteer at the BlueCross Bowl.
TSSAA’s BlueCross Bowl in Cookeville is a combined effort between the Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau, city of Cookeville, Putnam County and Tennessee Tech University. An anticipated $2.5 million is expected to be contributed to Cookeville and Putnam County’s economy over the three-day period. Hosting privileges for the games have been secured through 2016.
