UPPER CUMBERLAND – Two Upper Cumberland counties have been ranked among the top 10 places in Tennessee to retire.

The ranking, released by SmartAsset, a financial technology company, says Crossville and McMinnville are among the best in the state to spend your golden years. Ironically, both are also among four designated Retire Tennessee communities in the region.

Crossville ranked first on the list, which considers tax rates; doctors’ offices per 1,000 people; recreation centers per 1,000 people; retirement centers per 1,000 people; and the percentage of seniors.

McMinnville ranked fifth, respectively.

Rounding out the top 10 were Paris (2), Winchester (3), Savannah (4), Brentwood (6), Sevierville (7), Lawrenceburg (8), Union City (9) and Maryville (10). Crossville ranked 1,010th nationally.

SmartAsset also segregated communities with the best medical care. Crossville ranked second on that list, followed by Cookeville, which was ninth, and McMinnville, which ranked 10th. If just considering recreational and social opportunities, Crossville ranks third and McMinnville ninth.
