Event welcomed 5,200 students from 12 different counties
Earlier this week the Highlands Economic Partnership (HEC), and the Cookeville Putnam County Chamber of Commerce (Chamber) hosted the Upper Cumberland’s largest career exploration event to date, the Eighth Grade Career Fair. The event welcomed 5,200 students from 12 different counties and offered “hands-on immersive learning experiences” at 81 booths across eight diverse industry sectors.
The mission is the “commitment to fostering prosperity, equality, and access for all students in our region,” according to a release by the HEC.

“The Eighth Grade Career Fair highlights this dedication by providing a platform for every student, regardless of their socioeconomic background or circumstance, to explore an array of career opportunities completely free of charge,” according to the release.
Amy New, President and CEO of the Highlands Economic Partnership and the Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce, says every student deserves a chance.
“We believe that every student deserves the chance to envision their future,” said New. “By facilitating this event, we are breaking down barriers to access and ensuring that all young individuals in our community can discover their potential and pursue their passions.”
The event featured interactive exhibits and presentations from local businesses and industry leaders.
“Students had the opportunity to connect directly with professionals and gain insights into various career paths,” according to the release. “This immersive experience not only enhances their understanding of the workforce landscape but also empowers them to make informed decisions about their futures.”
The HEC and the Chamber says the event extends beyond the classroom.
“By bridging the gap between education and employment, the Highlands Economic Partnership is actively contributing to the economic development of the Upper Cumberland region, ensuring a vibrant and skilled workforce for years to come,” according to the release
