Cookeville – The Women’s Center Gallery on the campus of Tennessee Tech University is featuring the work of the WMC Exhibition Award winner, senior fine arts major and Cookeville native, Rebecca Hahnert.

“I’m very excited and grateful that the Women’s Center has given me this opportunity,” Hahnert said. “I’ve never had a solo exhibition of my work before, so this is a wonderful way to finish my last semester at Tech.”

Hahnert’s concentration is in design, and she prefers the digital medium, both digital painting and digital design. While she grew up around campus and it was already a familiar part of her life, she chose to come to Tech for the fine arts program.

“I’d heard great things about the design program, so I was confident it would be a good fit for me,” Hahnert said.

She had classes at the Appalachian Center for Craft, Tech’s satellite campus in Smithville, and while there took advantage of educational opportunities offered in the classroom, but also those offered by its location.

“My time there created some of my favorite memories of college,” Hahnert said. “The location also had a huge impact on my enjoyment in my classes, it’s just beautiful! I especially loved taking hikes on the trails surrounding the facility.”

Hahnert plans to go into print design, she is interested in the process of taking a design from completely digital to a physical medium. She said she does find other areas in design appealing and is open to other design opportunities that might be presented to her.

“My time here at Tech has been really great, being in the design program has improved my skills more than I would’ve thought possible in just four years,” Hahnert said. “I didn’t even really see myself as a “computer person” my freshman year, so it shows how hard the design professors work with students from all skill levels.”

The Women’s Center Exhibition Award was established in 2022 to showcase student artists in the College of Fine Arts’ Brian Fine Arts Juried Art Exhibition whose artwork reflects the WMC’s mission.
