Revised July 31: TDOT Traffic Advisories

UPPER CUMBERLAND – The Tennessee Department of Transportation(TDOT) has significant highway construction going on throughout the Upper Cumberland region that will drastically impact travelers. 

The following are the traffic advisories for interstate construction throughout the Upper Cumberland for July 25-Aug. 2 listed by county and an estimated completion date.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY I-40 Construction of a truck climbing lane EB near MM 339, including grading, drainage, and paving: Construction signs, guardrail (westbound), and portable barrier rail (eastbound) have been installed. The contractor will begin grade work in the median behind portable barrier rail. Motorists are encouraged to slow down, use caution, and be aware of construction personnel in the work zone as well as equipment that will be entering and exiting the roadway. Estimated project completion date is June 2020. 

PUTNAM COUNTY I-40 near MM 296 Bridge repair on Rocky Point Road over I-40: Rocky Point Road bridge at LM 10.08 has been opened to traffic. Motorists should expect intermittent flagging operations throughout the completion of work. Rocky Point Road Bridge at LM 9.31 over I-40 is closed due to bridge repairs and will re-open November 2019. A detour is in place to guide motorists around the bridge closure. Nightly lane closures will be performed on I-40 at MM 296 beginning 07/28/19 through 08/02/19 from 8 PM to 6 AM. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone.  Estimated project completion date is August 2019. 

PUTNAM COUNTY I-40 WB Resurfacing and bridge repair from Falling Water River (MM 291) to the ramp from US-70N (SR-24) (MM 301): Nightly lane closures will occur Sunday through Thursday between 7 PM to 6 AM. The contractor will be placing shoulder stone. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone.  Estimated project completion date is August 2019.

PUTNAM COUNTY TDOT Maintenance on I-40 in both directions from MM 267 to MM 301: There will be intermittent night time lane closures each night on Monday, 7/28/19 thru Thursday, 8/1/19 between the hours of 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM.

The following are the traffic advisories for state roads across the Upper Cumberland for July 25-Aug. 2 listed by county with the road, extent of work and an estimated completion date.

CANNON, MARION, AND WARREN COUNTY SR-96 Resurfacing from the Rutherford County line  to the Wilson County line, SR-150 (US-41) resurfacing from north of Sequatchie Mountain Road to the Grundy County line, SR-156 resurfacing from east of River Landing  to east of Nickajack Landing Road, and SR-287 resurfacing from SR-379 to south of Shelbyville Road: Resurfacing operations have begun on SR-96 in Cannon County. During construction, the road will be reduced to one lane, flaggers and a pilot car will be used to guide traffic flow through the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and watch for construction equipment and personnel in the roadway.  Estimated project completion date is September 2019. 

CLAY COUNTY SR-53 Resurfacing from north of Copeland Lane to Old Livingston Highway: The contractor will be on site performing paving operations. During construction, one lane will be closed to allow this work to occur and flaggers will be used to facilitate traffic flow through the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and watch for construction equipment and personnel in the roadway. Estimated project completion date is November 2019. 

CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-1 (US-70) Emergency Slope Stabilization near LM 26.6:  TDOT contract crews will use a flagging operation to set out portable concrete barrier rail on SR-1 (US-70) between LM 26.0 and LM 27.0 near Godsey Road beginning tomorrow, Aug. 1, 2019 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. CDT. Temporary road closures will be needed to facilitate this work. The contractor plans to complete the barrier rail installation in one day, but if unable to do so they will finish the next day. This work is weather dependent. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and should prepare to expect long delays when traveling through the work zone. Once all barrier rail has been installed, this area will be reduced to one lane and controlled by a temporary traffic signal for the duration of the project. Estimated project completion date is November 2019. 

CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-1 (US-70) Resurfacing from east of Pomona Road to west of SR-24 (US-70N) and on SR-28 (US-127) from south of Sawmill Road to north of SR-392 and on SR-392 from north of Old Mail Road to SR-28 (US-127): Construction signs have been installed. The contractor will begin milling/paving on SR-1 and SR-392. Flaggers will be used for temporary lane closures. Motorists should be aware of ongoing paving activities and be alert for construction personnel and equipment working on the roadway.  Estimated project completion date is September 2019. 

CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-101 (Peavine Road) Grading, drainage, and paving from Firetower Road to Westchester/Catoosa Boulevard: As grade work progresses, motorists should be alert for shifts in traffic patterns to allow for construction activities. The posted speed limit has been reduced from 45 MPH to 35 MPH within the work zone. Temporary lane closures may be needed to support ongoing work. Lane and/or road closures may be needed within Fairfield Glade to allow installation of storm drain and relocation of utilities. Motorists should reduce speeds on Peavine Road and be alert for construction personnel and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.  Estimated project completion date is November 2020. 

FENTRESS COUNTY Rotten Fork Road over Rotten Fork of the Wolf River Bridge Replacement: The contractor is currently working on new bridge at Rotten Fork Road at LM 0.135. Rotten Fork Road remains open to traffic while the new bridge is being constructed. Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction equipment adjacent to roadway. Estimated project completion date is November 2019. 

FENTRESS COUNTY SR-52, SR-154 and SR-297 Resurfacing (microsurfacing): The contractor will be on site performing work on punch list items. The routes covered in the project are SR-52 from east of US-127 (SR-28) to SR-296, SR-154 from north of Louvaine Road to the Pickett County line, and SR-297 from SR-154 to the Scott County line. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and watch for construction equipment in the roadway. Estimated project completion date is July 2019. 

FENTRESS COUNTY Vines Ridge Road over Big Laurel Creek Bridge Replacement: Vines Ridge Road remains closed at LM 1.06 and will remain closed until the new bridge is constructed and in place. Approximate date for the length of closure is 07/31/19. Motorists should seek alternate route around Vines Ridge Road near location of construction. Estimated project completion date is November 2019. 

FENTRESS AND OVERTON COUNTY SR-85 Emergency slide repairs at various locations: The roadway is closed from LM 18.4 to LM 22.4 in Overton county. SR-85 is also closed in Fentress County between LM 5.75 and 8.00. The contractor is continuing work on this contract in the two areas listed where the roadway is closed. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and seek alternate routes. Estimated project completion date is January 2020. 

JACKSON COUNTY SR-53 Resurfacing from the Smith County line to north of New Salem Road, including repair of the bridge over Flynn’s Creek: The contractor has currently completed bridge repair work and SR-53 is open to traffic. The contractor has scheduled paving operations to begin in the middle of August. Estimated project completion date is September 2019. 

JACKSON AND PUTNAM COUNTY SR-53 Resurfacing in Jackson County from north of SR-135 to the Clay County line and on SR-56 from north of US-70N (SR-24) in Putnam County to north of Old Creek Road in Jackson County: The contractor has scheduled paving to begin 07/25/19. The contractor will have the roadway shut down to one lane and will utilize flagging operations to facilitate traffic flow while the work is performed. Motorists are encouraged to use caution throughout the work zone and watch for equipment and personnel present. Estimated project completion date is September 2019. 

MACON COUNTY, Resurfacing on SR 10 from south of Ellington Drive to KY state line Daily, 6AM-6PM: There will be temporary lane closures on SR 10 in both directions for degrassing activities. One lane will remain open.

MACON COUNTY, Safety Improvements on SR 52 from SR 141 to Old Highway 52 Daily, 6AM-6PM: There will be alternating lanes closures on SR 52 in both directions for paving and pavement marking activities. One lane will remain open.

OVERTON COUNTY Utility Work on SR-84 northbound from LM 11.69 to LM 12.06: Intermittent lane closures for utility work will take place along SR-84 between Rock Springs Church Rd and Matheney Rd. Signage and flaggers will be present during this work. Motorists should use caution. From 07/25/19 through 07/31/19 between 8 AM and 3 PM.

OVERTON COUNTY SR-111 Miscellaneous safety improvements at the intersections of SR-293: The contractor will be installing construction signs. The contractor may begin setting out barrier rail. Estimated project completion date is October 2019. 

PUTNAM COUNTY Utility Work on SR-136 (N. WASHINGTON AVE.) both directions from 4thSt. – 6thSt.:   Utility work will take place between 4th St. and 6th St. Signage, barrels, and cones will be present during this work. Motorists should use caution and be aware of flaggers. Work will continue through 07/31/2019 between 9AM and 3PM.

PUTNAM AND WHITE COUNTY SR-24 Resurfacing in Putnam County from Mill Creek Road to Bee Rock Road and on SR-84 in White County from south of East College Street to the Putnam County line: The contractor will be performing resurfacing operations on SR-84 and begin preparing for resurfacing on SR-24. Lane closures with flagging operations should be expected within the project limits. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone.  Estimated project completion date is September 2019. 

SMITH COUNTY, Resurfacing on SR 53 from SR 141/SR 264 (LM 11.04) to US 70N (SR 24) (LM 15.66):Nightly, 6PM-5:30AM:There will be temporary lane closures on SR 53 in both directions for paving activities. One lane will remain open.

WARREN COUNTY SR-288 Construction of a concrete bulb-tee beam bridge over Collins River (LM 4.97), including grading, drainage and paving: The Bridge is currently reduced to one 10.5-foot lane to allow the contractor to construct the new bridge. While the bridge is reduced to one lane, traffic will be maintained and controlled by a temporary signal. Motorists should expect periodic delays and use caution in the work zone. RESTRICTIONS: 10.5-foot max width. Estimated project completion date is September 2019. 

WARREN COUNTY SR-8 over Collins River (LM 8.14) Bridge Repair: The Bridge is currently reduced to one 11-ft. lane to allow the contractor to repair the existing bridge. While the bridge is reduced to one lane, traffic will be maintained and controlled by a temporary signal for the safety of the traveling public. Motorists should expect periodic delays and use caution in the work zone. RESTRICTIONS: 11-ft max width. Estimated project completion date is August 2019. 

WHITE COUNTY SR-1 (US-70) Bridge repair over the Calfkiller River in Sparta: The Calfkiller bridge in Sparta is in the first of three permanent phases of lane closures. These phases will affect between Wilson Street and Church Street. This first phase will restrict the west bound traffic to one lane, while retaining the left turn lane and two lanes of traffic in the east bound direction. This phase is expected to be completed by August 2019. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert to all construction signage while traveling through the work zone. Estimated project completion date is September 2019.
