DEKALB COUNTY – Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner John Schroer will join state and local officials to celebrate the official completion of the Sligo bridge project in DeKalb County on Friday.  The event will take place in the paved parking lot near the west end of the bridge.

Schroer will be joined by Sen. Mae Beavers (R-Mt. Juliet), Rep. Terri Lynn Weaver (R-Lancaster), DeKalb County Mayor Tim Stribling and Smithville Mayor Jimmy Poss.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 2:30 p.m. The bridge’s scheduled completion date was on or before June 30, 2016.

Work began on the $39.2 million project in May 2013. Kansas City-based Massman Construction Co. served as contractor. The new bridge, which crosses over the Caney Fork River with views of Center Hill Lake, has been open since August, although the state has been working to finish painting and grade work in recent months. The old crossing, which was built in 1947, was demoed in September.

Officials hope the project will help expand business opportunities around Center Hill Lake.
