Registering by Sept. 15 will guarantee you a race shirt

WCTE PBS will hold its annual Haunted Half Marathon, Relay and 5K race on the campus of Tennessee Tech Oct. 19.

“This cherished tradition invites participants to breakout their running shoes and take in the scenic countryside on a crisp October morning with the half-marathon or 5k race,” according to a release by WCTE. “Last year, the event attracted over 450 runners, many of whom showcased their creativity with spooky costumes while demonstrating their determination to conquer the half-marathon.”

According to WCTE, all finishers will receive a custom medal.

Registering by Sept. 15 will guarantee you a race shirt, an opportunity to compete in their respective age categories and a chance to win a unique pottery piece from Fragrant Mushroom in Sparta.

“Some participants may also aspire to achieve the Master and Grand Master awards,” according to the release. “The day will be further enhanced by the Craft Beer Festival, taking place at the new venue, Trackside, on Cookeville’s Westside. This year just like the past, race participants will benefit from a discounted Craft Beer ticket when they register for the Haunted Half, Relay or 5K.”

A shorter relay race consisting of teams of three will also be held.

“The 5K, now in its second year, has quickly gained popularity, particularly among the youth runners, and parents with strollers, making it an ideal choice for anyone seeking outdoor exercise,” according to the release.

Avery Hutchins, President and CEO of WCTE, emphasizes that the Haunted Half is essential for the companies support of early literacy.

“The Haunted Half Marathon, Relay, and 5K is not only enjoyable but also essential for WCTE PBS to generate the funds necessary to support early learning literacy, public safety, and exceptional local programming throughout the year.”

The contributions of race participants have made the event a leading fundraiser for WCTE PBS annually. Those interested register at wcte.org.
