Smithville Planning Commission recently considered a final site plan

According to a report by wjle.com in Smithville, the city may soon welcome Waffle House to its stable of restaurants.

According to the website, the Smithville Planning Commission recently considered a final site plan for WH at 312 East Broad Street. Nothing is set in stone as of yet, but the 24-hour diner does have a strong footprint in the south with stores already in Sparta, McMinnville and Cookeville.

According to WJLE, a final site plan isn’t the end. It is only the beginning and sometimes nothing comes of them.

From wjle.com:

“In July, the planning commission unanimously approved a site plan for a Burger King Restaurant at 200 East Broad Street. The developer even completed and submitted a building permit to the city but to date the project has not moved forward.”

WH was first opened in 1955 by two neighbors in Avondale Estates, Georgia, Joe Rogers and Tom Forkner. The duo opened a restaurant focused on “people on both sides of the counter,” according to WaffleHouse.com.

“As this movement began to expand, new restaurants were built in Georgia as well as neighboring states and the “Yellow Sign” soon became a familiar landmark along city streets and interstate highways across the country,” according to WH.

Today, WH has more than 1900 locations in 25 states.

“We aren’t in the food business. We’re in the people business,” Joe Rogers, Sr. believed.
