Attendees will receive an update on Putnam County School System initiatives

The Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce (Chamber) will host its first Signature Luncheon of 2025, titled “State of Early Childhood Education,” April 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Leslie Town Centre.

The luncheon will highlight the “vital role of early childhood education and the Putnam County School System’s (PCSS) plans to best serve students from pre-K through sixth grade,” according to the Chamber.

Featured speakers will include:

  • Putnam County Superintendent Corby King
  • School Board Member Jill Ramsey
  • Pre-K Coordinator Allison Painter
  • Pre-K-4 Curriculum Supervisor Diana Wood

According to a release by the Chamber, attendees will receive an update on PCSS initiatives, including early learning strategies, challenges and opportunities shaping the future of education.

“Investing in early childhood education is essential for building a strong workforce, supporting working families and ensuring long-term economic growth,” said Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber President and CEO Amy New. “This event highlights how the Putnam County School System is shaping our future workforce. It’s critical for our business community to understand and support education, as today’s students are tomorrow’s talent. When businesses invest in schools – through mentorship, internships, or partnerships – they help build a stronger economy and a more skilled workforce for our region.”

Recreational Concepts, a company that “brings families and communities together through the joy of play, changing the lives of people of all abilities with all recreational needs,” will sponsor the event. The Chamber says the event will “bring together business leaders, educators and community stakeholders to discuss the future of education in our region.”

“Kids learn and enhance their emotional well-being, social interaction, confidence, motor skills, and cognitive learning through play. To see the health of a community, look at their playgrounds,” commented Cail Sumerlin, Administrative Support at Recreational Concepts, the sponsor of this luncheon. “We want nothing more than to work with the Upper Cumberland… Our own backyard… To provide these spaces, bringing joy to kids, parents and teachers alike!”
