Saturday’s History Hike spotlighting ‘Downtown Doors’

COOKEVILLE – Behind every door is history.

Saturday’s History Hike, presented by Cookeville Leisure Services, will unlock the history behind Cookeville’s downtown doors.

“The WestSide is always progressing and developing with the times,” Ashley McKee, Cookeville museums education specialist, said. “Sometimes you need to stop and take a look around to see where businesses have been to envision where they are headed.”

Participants will pick up entry forms at the Cookeville History Museum, 40 E. Broad St., and Cookeville Depot Museum, 116 W. Broad St., between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Then they’ll “hike” through the old downtown business district between the museums.

“The idea is to focus on store front entrances and, using the WestSide History Walk signs, determine what business once existed in those locations,” McKee said.

Those completing the free activity will be entered in a prize drawing sponsored by CityScape. Two winners will be chosen – one from each museum.

History Hikes take place the second Saturday of each month through October. For more information, call 931-520-5455 or 931-528-8570.
