The Bible says to “despise not small beginnings”
Four decades ago Dave Roland and his wife Diane began Roland Digital Media on a wing and a prayer, a lifetime to some and a blink to others.
“40 years ago, this fall, this young lady and I stepped out with the $2000 her grandmother had left her to finish TTU on to start a business we knew nothing about,” said RDM owner Dave Roland (Roland).
Following a 50% raise at his job with the state of Tennessee at the time, Roland was unsure. Was it the time to take a chance? If it wasn’t risky, everyone would do it.
“Her (Diane) response was “We are young and we can eat at your Grandma’s if we have to,” Roland told the UCBJ. “I thank God for sending me the right Girl who believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself.”
With hard work and faith, the duo has lasted, and Roland Digital Media recently held a 40th anniversary celebration and ribbon cutting in Cookeville. The community, city and county officials were on hand to congratulate the company on its longevity.

“Today, Diane and I would like to thank our God, all the thousands of customers, landowners and individual business relationships that have carried us through these 40 years,” said Roland. “We have also had many great employees throughout the years but none better than the ones you see here.”
Every day, it’s a team effort at Roland.
“We thank God for each and every one of these folks who work hard every day to make it happen. 40 years later I still have a hard time drawing a stick man, but these great employees keep connecting the dots over and over!”
