State Trooper Adam Cothron was seriously injured last month when he was shot while conducting a traffic stop on I-40 in Putnam County.
According to a report by Fox17.com in Nashville, local nonprofit 100 Club of Nashville is donating $50,000 to the officer and his family. The donation “aims to help Cothron and his family with expenses during his recovery process,” according to the report. Founded in 1979, the 100 Club was created to help provided for the dependents of police officers and firefighter who lose their lives or are injured in the line of duty.

On the evening of July 19 Cothron pulled over a White Kia Forte for a traffic violation near the Burgess Falls Exit (Exit 285). During the interaction with two black males inside the vehicle, Cothron was shot before the car sped away from the scene and the Kia was abandoned on Highway 109 near Gallatin.
Cothron, a former Deputy Sheriff in Trousdale, K-9 handler, father and husband, was life flighted to Vanderbilt where he battled for life and has since been recovering. His body camera footage on the night identified Braze Rucker, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) obtained warrants for Rucker’s arrest.

The 29-year-old Rucker was found and arrested by Kentucky State Police in Princeton, Kentucky north of Hopkinsville before being extradited back to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office jail. He was booked on charges related to the shooting of Cothron.
