National Park Service administers the National Register to help identify archaeological resources
Ralph’s Donuts, Cookeville’s oldest doughnut shop, has been officially added to the National Register of Historic Places.
The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the nation’s historic places worthy of preservation. The National Park Service administers the National Register to help “identify, evaluate, and protect America’s historic and archaeological resources.”
“It feels really good to be a part of something like this,” McDonald told the UCBJ. “Business has been great, and we have been very blessed.”
Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter says Ralph’s is a landmark.
“Ralph’s Donuts has been added to the National Register of Historic Places,” said Porter in a statement. “Owners John and Sandy MacDonald were notified by the State that the iconic donut shop had been selected to be on the Registry.”
Ralph’s was originally opened in 1962 by Ralph and Evelyn Smith.
“… The business has been a landmark in Putnam County for 63 years now,” said Porter.
The designation comes on the heels of Ralph’s celebrating 60 years in business in the city in 2022.
