Inclement weather forces cancellation

Due to expected inclement weather, The City of Cookeville has canceled this year’s Christmas parade. Mayor Laurin Wheaton made the announcement on Facebook.

“We are saddened to announce the 2024 Cookeville Christmas Parade is canceled due to imminent weather tonight,” according to Wheaton. “The parade committee has been in constant contact with emergency management officials and meteorologists since early last week, evaluating options for having our Cookeville Christmas parade.”

Rain and Wind moved into the area Saturday night, which was the original scheduled date for the parade. That forecast forced the parade to be rescheduled for tonight, Monday, Dec. 16.

“The parade committee, along with many participants, City departments and support organizations have worked hard to create this parade. To cancel is not a decision the committee has taken lightly, and we are saddened to add this year’s parade to those that have been rained out.”

No reschedule date will be announced, according to Wheaton.
