One of the scams presents itself in the form of a pornographic image on your computer
Sheriff Farris would like to remind the citizens of Putnam County that there are several scams currently making their way through our county.
One of the scams presents itself in the form of a pornographic image on your computer.
This is followed by a man asking for your phone number so that he can tell you how to secure your funds in your bank account. The scammer will then direct you to withdraw money from your account and to present half it in person at your residence, and then for the other half to be deposited to bitcoin.
The Sheriff has also been made aware of several attempts to solicit money from the residents of Putnam County under the pretense of there being a warrant for someone’s arrest or failing to present for jury duty. The public needs to be aware that the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office will never call you soliciting money for any sort of criminal violation.
Another circulating scam is for the caller to provide you with last four digits of your Social Security number and then ask you to verify your full Social Security number. Be aware that the caller ID may be falsified to show up as a government office. The caller may also have a portion of your public personal information, including your home address.
Please be mindful that a criminal will prey on the most vulnerable, do not fall victim to these scams. If you get a phone call or computer message from someone you do not know, hang up immediately or simply do not answer.
When in doubt, always call your Putnam County Sheriff’s Office for advice before sending money or revealing any personal information. Please report scam activity to our dispatch at (931) 528-8484.
