Putnam County – With fall settling in and the busy buying season just around the corner, Putnam County will look to gain a much-needed tax revenue bump in the months before Christmas. If the September sales tax revenue numbers, which are taxes collected in the month of July and turned over to the state in August, are any indication, Putnam County is trending in a positive direction in that regard.
According to reports, collections were up 12.5% compared to the month of July last year. Putnam County increased 26.3% with Cookeville in creasing 10.4%, Algood jumped 13.1% and Baxter and Monterey increasing 9.6% and 20.8%, respectively.

According to reports, Putnam County has averaged 12.5% more growth per month throughout the first 3 months of the fiscal year compared to that same time last year.

“We know some of this continues to be due to inflation,” said Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter. “But Putnam County is also the “retail hub” for the region and our population continues to grow.”
