August and September are historically strong months for new business

Putnam County – According to numbers obtained by the Upper Cumberland Business Journal, the number of businesses licensed in 2023 is fewer than that of 2022 through July when 395 new licenses were issued.

Thus far in 2023, there have been 386 licenses issued. If the pace continues, Putnam County will see just slightly fewer licenses issued.

In 2022, there were 643 total licenses issued.

March of this year saw 15 more licenses issued than the same month last year, but every other month saw a decrease. Last year, Aug. and Sept. were the busiest month for new licenses. If that trend maintains, the end of the year could see the county making up ground on issuances.

There were 76 total ribbon cuttings last year. As of this writing, there have been 48 thus far this year with more scheduled in the coming days.
