County Building Codes Department gained $18,022 in fees
Construction numbers in August are down in the county compared to recent months, according to Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter. Porter says he isn’t sure if this is the start of a trend or just a “one-month fluke.”
“August had 28 permits for $3.9M of construction, with 12 of those being for new single-family residential homes,” said Porter.
This while national construction spending has increased 0.5%, according to AGC.com, and all major segments posted year-over-year increases mostly strengthened by manufacturing, power office and highway and street construction which offset decline in commercial construction.
“Residential spending grew by 0.6% from July to August,” according to AGC.com. “Single-family homebuilding contributed the majority share of the growth, expanding by 1.7% for the month. New multifamily construction was up 0.6% compared to July.”
In comparison, Aug. 2023 had 38 permits in Putnam County for $7.5 million with 19 of those being new single-family homes. The County Building Codes Department gained $18,022 in fees from revenue created by July permits. These numbers do not include any of the four cities in Putnam County.
