The City of Cookeville and Putnam County will hold “Putnam County and Cookeville’s Day of Prayer” May 1, in alignment with the 74th observance of the National Day of Prayer.” Which began in 1952 and is an annual tradition on the first Thursday in May.
The announcement comes as a collaboration recently announced between the city and county governments.
“Mayor Porter and I signed the proclamation in the council chambers at Cookeville City Hall with local members of the National Day of Prayer Task Force, a private nonprofit organization,” according to a statement by Cookeville Mayor Laurin Wheaton.
All religions and denominations are welcome, according to the release.
“The proclamation invites city and county residents, of all religions and denominations, to come together in prayer,” according to the announcement.
For those wanting to participate, there will be a local observance on the south lawn of Putnam County Courthouse at 11:30 a.m. May 1.
“This year’s theme is “Pour out to the God of hope and be filled” and is Biblically derived from Romans 15:13,” according to the release.
