Proposed amendment to the zoning code that would allow drive-thru fast food restaurants in neighborhood commercial

On Monday, July 28, The Putnam County Planning Commission is taking another look at a proposed amendment to the zoning code that would allow drive-thru fast food restaurants in neighborhood commercial districts.

The Re-review, if you will, comes following a request submitted by Peggy Semmes, and many complaints from the public regarding the often loud, 24-hour restaurants being allowed in the same zoning as neighborhoods.

The review was requested by the city council during its last meeting.

“We are hearing you,” said councilman Chad Gilbert at the time, “and we want to get this right. I encourage everyone … to go to the Planning Commission (meeting) … Your ideas are welcome. We want to hear your comments and we want to get it right.”

Councilman Erik Walker agreed saying fast food restaurants should not be allowed in NCZ.

“I think it is important for everyone who came out for this tonight to make sure you make it to the planning commission and hear that process through,” said Councilman Erik Walker.

The planning commission meets Monday, July 28, at 5:30 p.m. at Cookeville City Hall at 45 E. Broad Street.
