Slippery roads and difficult travel conditions

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning from 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10 to 6 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 for the counties of Clay, Pickett, Jackson, Putnam, Overton, Fentress, White, Cumberland and Van Buren.

The Warning includes the cities of Celina, Jamestown, Allardt, Crossville, Livingston, Cookeville, Spencer, Sparta, Byrdstown and Gainesboro. According to the NWS, heavy snow is expected with total accumulations of both snow and ice between 3 to 7 inches. Some areas may see even more.

“Plan on slippery roads and difficult travel conditions,” according to NWS. “The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening commutes.”

Take precautions if you must travel.

“… Keep an extra flashlight, food, water and warm clothes in your vehicle in case of an emergency,” suggests the NWS. “The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.”
