Nashville – Smithville Jamboree Fiddle Champion will soon perform at the Grand Ole Opry (the Opry).

The Opry, the world’s longest-running radio show and the show that made country music famous, recently announced an invitation the 2023 Grand Fiddle Off Champion of the Smithville Fiddlers’ Jamboree and Crafts Festival to perform on its legendary stage. The Jamboree, held annually on the Friday and Saturday nearest the Fourth of July in Smithville, Tennessee, draws hundreds of musicians and crafts people, as well as thousands of spectators from around the world and showcases the best of old-time Appalachian-style music and dance, as well as authentic Appalachian and handmade crafts.

“The Opry is more than just a radio show or a performance venue,” according to a release. “It is a family of artists and fans who share a love for country music and its history. It is a place where aspiring stars dream of playing and where music lovers connect with their favorite artists up close. It is a place where legends are made, and history is preserved.”

The Grand Fiddle Off Champion, who will be determined July 1 at the 52nd annual Jamboree, will have the opportunity to play a ‘fiddle tune’ for the Opry square dancers’ live performance during a selected show later this year. The Opry has partnered with the Smithville Jamboree since 2022 to offer this exciting opportunity to the fiddle champion, to honor the tradition and talent of country music fiddlers, according to a release.
