Federal-Mogul laying off 50 in DeKalb

SMITHVILLE – Automotive supplier Federal-Mogul is laying off 50 employees at its plant in DeKalb County.

The layoffs, currently ongoing, are set to end April 30, according to a notice filed with the state. Employees at the facility, 1 Grizzly Lane, Smithville, are not represented by a collective bargaining agreement, the company said.

Back in 2012, Federal-Mogul transitioned nearly 200 jobs in Smithville to both Mexico and Asia, in an effort to reduce capacity and cost. There was no word from corporate officials if the latest downsizing was for similar effect.

Headquartered in Southfield, Mich., Federal-Mogul is a global supplier of automotive components, sub-systems, modules and systems.
